The book Safe as Houses is about how three kids survive from a flood and get help on a rooftop.
On October 15 , 1954 Lizzie Hardy walked the children she babysit-David and Suzie McBride home after school. On their way they noticed the river wae moving at an incredible clip and it was already raining very hard , but they didn`t think it`s going to turn out to be a flood . When they arrived at the house , Lizzie got a call from Mrs.McBribe saying that they will arrive later at night because of the heavy rain in the city.By the time when David and Suzie went to bed the rain got harder and the phone line had died,so Lizzie decided to sleep at the McBribe`s place.At midnight Lizzie was awakened by the sound of water she realized the water had rush into her house she immeiately woke David and Suzie up and climbed to the rooftop as they got to the roof top they saw theres water everywhere but in the dark they could barely see any other houses in the neighbourhood but they could hear people shouting for help on their rooftop they also shouted for help then they jumped on a tree because they realized their house would be flushed away by the flood.Eventually they were rescued and were all safe.
